General Questions
A modern Christian spiritual Order inspired by Templar heritage and the ideals of Christian knighthood, with emphasis on faith, fellowship, charity and service.
No. While Templar Knights Albion honours and draws inspiration from the history, traditions and Christian ideals of the Knights Templar, we are not a historical re-enactment society.
TKA is a living Christian fellowship of modern Knights and Dames, centred upon faith, service, charity and Christian knighthood. Members are formally received into the Order through Christian ceremony and initiation under episcopal oversight, giving our Templar vocation a living spiritual purpose rather than simply recreating the past.
We remember our Templar heritage, but seek to live its Christian values in the world today.
No. Templar Knights Albion is a non-political Christian Order and is not affiliated with, aligned to, or established to promote any political party, movement or ideology.
Our purpose is rooted in Christian faith, fellowship, charity and service. Members may naturally hold their own personal views, but political campaigning and partisan activity have no place within the mission of the Order.
TKA seeks to bring people together through shared Christian values and service to others, not divide them through politics.
Initiation is a solemn Christian ceremony marking a member’s formal reception into Templar Knights Albion as a Knight or Dame.
Conducted by a Bishop who serves as a Spiritual Protector of the Order, the candidate makes a solemn vow to defend the Christian faith, uphold the values and responsibilities of the Order, and seek to live out those commitments through prayer, charity and service to others.
The ceremony draws upon the traditions and symbolism of Christian knighthood, recognising that membership carries responsibilities as well as honour.
Some aspects of the ceremony are intentionally reserved for those undertaking the journey themselves, allowing each new Knight or Dame to experience the significance of their initiation personally.
Where reasonably practicable, we aim to arrange initiation as locally as possible to the candidate, helping make this important occasion accessible to members from different areas.
Faith Based Questions. What do TKA believe?
Christian faith lies at the heart of Templar Knights Albion. We are a Christian Order whose fellowship, values and service are rooted in the teachings and example of Jesus Christ.
Prayer, worship, charity and service to others form an important part of our life together. We seek to encourage our Knights and Dames to grow in faith, serve those in need and put Christian principles into action in their everyday lives.
While we honour the heritage of the Knights Templar, our purpose is not simply to remember the Christianity of the past, but to live and share the Christian faith in the world today.
Ecclesiastical oversight means that the spiritual life and Christian character of Templar Knights Albion are supported and guided by a Bishop.
This helps ensure that our ceremonies, worship and spiritual practices remain grounded in the Christian faith, while providing pastoral guidance and spiritual support to the Order and its members.
For TKA, episcopal oversight reflects an important principle: Christian knighthood is not simply ceremonial or historical, but a living expression of faith, service and fellowship under spiritual guidance.
Templar Knights Albion is rooted in the historic and apostolic tradition of the Christian Church, under the ecclesiastical oversight of a Bishop standing within that tradition. This helps preserve our connection to the foundations of the Christian faith, received from Christ through His Apostles and handed down through the life of the Church.
TKA welcomes members from all Christian backgrounds, as well as those without an established church background, provided they sincerely accept the Christian faith, values and beliefs of the Order and its commitment to defending the foundations of that faith. Members are not restricted in where they ordinarily worship and may attend the church or denomination appropriate to them.
When Brothers and Sisters participate in TKA worship and receive Holy Communion within the life of the Order, the Sacrament will be administered by a male priest ordained within the apostolic tradition and recognised by our ecclesiastical oversight.
This represents the ecclesiastical and sacramental discipline of TKA and is not intended as a judgement upon Christians or churches whose traditions and ministry differ from our own.
Yes, absolutely. Membership of Templar Knights Albion does not require you to leave your existing church or worship within a particular denomination. Our members remain free to choose where they ordinarily worship according to their own conscience.
Many seek to attend local churches which align closest to their own theological understanding and principles, including Anglo-Catholic Church of England parishes, Anglican Catholic Church (ACC) parishes, Roman Catholic churches and other Christian congregations consistent with the Christian faith and values upheld by the Order.
When Brothers and Sisters participate in TKA worship and receive Holy Communion within the life of the Order, the Sacrament will be administered by a male priest ordained within the apostolic tradition and recognised by our ecclesiastical oversight.
This reflects TKA’s commitment to historic Christian ministry, apostolic continuity and sacramental practice, while respecting the freedom of our members in their own regular place of worship.
Membership & Subscriptions
No. Membership of TKA is not restricted to Catholics or to members of any particular Christian denomination. Our Knights and Dames come from a variety of Christian traditions, united by a shared faith in Jesus Christ.
We expect members to be Christian and willing to respect the Christian character, values and spiritual life of the Order.
If you have not yet been baptised or confirmed, this does not necessarily prevent you from applying. We simply ask that you are open to exploring and preparing for these important steps in the Christian faith, with appropriate pastoral guidance.
Yes. Templar Knights Albion welcomes both men and women who share our Christian faith, values and commitment to service.
Within the Order, men may be received as Knights and women as Dames, with both sharing equally in the fellowship, spiritual life and mission of TKA.
Christian knighthood within TKA is founded upon faith, character and service, and both Knights and Dames play an important part in the life and work of the Order.
Yes. The standard membership subscription is £40 per year / equivalent to just £3.33 per month — and helps support the administration, activities and ongoing work of Templar Knights Albion.
However, we recognise that everyone’s personal circumstances are different. Financial difficulty should not be a barrier to joining or participating in the life of the Order, and members or applicants experiencing financial hardship are encouraged to speak with us in confidence.
Our priority is a person’s faith, character and commitment to the values and mission of the Order, rather than their financial circumstances.
Yes. You do not need to live near an established Commandery to join Templar Knights Albion. We welcome enquiries from prospective members regardless of whether there is currently an established TKA presence in their local area.
Members can remain connected with the wider Order and participate in its fellowship, faith, charitable work and activities while opportunities for local involvement develop.
As TKA grows, we also welcome interest from members who may wish to help develop a Commandery within their own area, bringing together fellow Knights and Dames and helping our Christian mission take root in new communities.
Where possible, yes. Membership subscriptions help support the wider activities of Templar Knights Albion and, where funds allow, may be used to subsidise or reduce the cost of events, activities and other opportunities for members.
The annual subscription does not guarantee that every event or associated cost will be subsidised, as the level of support available will depend upon the nature of the activity and the funds available at the time.
As the Order grows, we aim to use our resources responsibly to make participation as accessible and affordable as reasonably possible for our Knights and Dames.
Yes. Membership of Templar Knights Albion is entirely voluntary, and a Knight or Dame may resign from the Order should their personal circumstances or commitments change.
We simply ask members wishing to resign to notify the Order formally in writing, either through our contact email address or directly to the Grand Master. This allows us to update our records and bring their membership to an appropriate conclusion.
We recognise that circumstances can change, and a decision to step away from the Order will always be treated with understanding, dignity and respect.
Uniform & Regalia
TKA does not require members to purchase an extensive uniform or collection of regalia. However, a Templar mantle is required for the initiation ceremony and forms an important part of the ceremonial dress of a Knight or Dame.
A mantle currently costs approximately £100 and is supplied through TKA’s approved retailer/manufacturer. This ensures a consistent standard, appearance and style of ceremonial dress across the Order.
The mantle does not need to be purchased when you first apply. Members will be given sufficient time to obtain one in preparation for their initiation, with the Order providing guidance and assistance with the process.
Yes. Members may choose to purchase additional regalia or ceremonial items at their own discretion.
However, if an item is intended to be worn or used at TKA ceremonies, events or other official activities, we ask that members discuss this with the Order and receive approval from the Grand Master before making a purchase.
This helps ensure that all ceremonial dress and regalia remain appropriate, respectful and consistent with the traditions and standards of the Order, while maintaining a sense of unity among our Knights and Dames.
